How does a central vacuum system work?
Your central vacuum power unit is located in your utility or garage. A 50mm pvc central vacuum pipe is run from the power unit to strategically placed vacuum inlets around your house (in the walls and floors and attic areas). These inlets are linked with a low voltage cable (24volts). You simply plug in the lightweight hose into an inlet and using the switch on the hose, switch on the power unit and vacuum your house.
Does a central vacuum system improve air quality in my home?
Yes, unlike a conventional vacuum cleaner, a Cyclovac central vacuum removes all the dirt back to the canister in the power unit and at the same time exhausts any dirty air outside your house. This action removes any stale air and dust mites etc removed from your carpets/ floors, thus improving air quality in your home.
Does the central vacuum unit need to be vented outside?
We recommend that you vent all systems outside as this will improve the quality of the air in your house and reduce the amount of dust build-up on furniture/pictures etc around your home. For smaller homes we do however supply a system that doesn’t need to be vented but comes with the option to vent externally.
If I have lots of tiles / wooden floors do I need a central vacuum system?
With tiles and timber floors all dirt on your floors will be more visible than with carpets and you will need to clean more often. Brushing will only create more dust whereas using a central vacuum system will remove all vacuumed dirt and is very easily quick and easy to use. We also supply a range of hard floor brushes specially designed for tile and timber floors.
Can I fit a central vacuum system in my house even though it is already built?
Yes, in most cases we can install a Cyclovac central vacuum system in your home in approx. one day, depending on the size of your home and the number of inlets required. A home survey will determine how the system can be fitted to your home.
How many inlets do I need in my house?
The number of inlets in your house depends on both the size of your house and the lay-out of rooms and doorways etc. You do not need to put an inlet in each room as the 30 ft. hose is long enough to cover large areas. Generally we would put 6 to 8 inlets in a normal house up to 3000 sq. feet. Smaller houses would require less inlets. 3 or 4 bed semi detached houses generally require 3 or 4 inlets.
What is a VacPan?
A vacpan is another form of inlet. The VacPan is fitted in your kitchen onto the kick board of the kitchen unit and is piped back to the vacuum unit. As your kitchen will probably see the most traffic in your house it will often need a quick clean. You simply sweep any dirt on your kitchen floor to the VacPan, flick open the door on the VacPan and sweep in the dirt which is then transported back to the vacuum unit. a quick flick of the VacPan door and the vacuum unit switches off
Will the suction be the same throughout the house?
Yes, assuming the system is installed properly then the suction will be the same at all inlets, even the furthest away inlet. It is important to install the correct size of Cyclovac central vacuum unit to suit the size of your house. Properly installed, you will experience the same powerful cleaning performance at each inlet.
How long is the hose?
On standard installations a 30 ft (9.5m) hose is used. Location of inlets around your house depends on the length of the hose used. On a house up to 3000 sq. feet it is normal to have about 6 to 8 inlets. A wall bracket is supplied with all installations to allow for storage of the hose when not in use. Longer hoses are also available, up to 50 ft.
Do I have to empty the bin often?
No, with the Cyclovac range you will only need to empty the dirt canister about twice a year. The capacity of our Cyclovac systems range from 4 gallons to nearly 8 gallons.
Can my central vacuum system get blocked?
Blockages rarely occur once the system is installed correctly. The diameter of the cleaning wand is 28mm and the diameter of the pipe linking all inlets and back to the vacuum unit is 50mm. Anything which passes through the wand will easily pass through the remaining network of pipe and back to the dirt canister.
Can I install a central vacuum system myself?
Yes, it is possible to install a Cyclovac central vacuum system yourself. Our Cyclovac systems can be bought as a D I Y kit or you can also have one of our authorised dealers install it for you. If you choose to install it yourself we provide you with a step by step installation manual and if required we can offer you a call out service to commission your installed system.
Can I pick up water or liquids with my central vacuum system?
No, you should not pick up liquids of any kind. This would cause dirt to stick to the inside of the pvc pipe work and possibly lead to a temporary blockage. It is not recommended that liquids enter the main vacuum canister or motor/electrics as any damage caused would not be covered under guarantee.
What guarantee do I get with a Cyclovac central vacuum system?
All of our Cyclovac range of domestic central vacuum systems come with a 5 year parts and labour warranty on the main vacuum unit and motor. There is a lifetime warranty on the pipe work and the main structural body of the unit as long as you are owner of the house. All inlets and attachments carry a 1 year guarantee.
